Energy conservation and environmental protection are important issues in today’s mechanical and plant engineering industries. Motor drive systems usually account for the largest share of total power consumption. They take up a lot of space and have significant heat dissipation requirements. Mitsubishi Electric has responded to these needs with a new addition to the company’s high-end FR-A700 line of frequency inverter drives: The new FR-A741 inverter has an integrated power regeneration system that enables it to feedback regenerative braking energy into the power grid with minimum losses. This technology generates less heat than conventional braking resistors, which in turn reduces space requirements as well as power consumption as no additional cooling devices are needed.
